Meta Connect 2026: Muse Gets Real-Time Voice, Mac Computer Use, and a Keychain Device

Meta launched Muse, its personal AI agent, on September 8. Connect was its first chance to say where Muse goes next, and the answer was: everywhere Meta has a surface. Most coverage centered on the keychain gadget Mark Zuckerberg revealed at the end of the keynote. For people deciding whether to use Muse, the software changes matter more than a device with no price.

What's new in Muse

• Voice mode: long, in-depth spoken conversations while Muse keeps working on tasks in the background. You can design Muse's voice by describing it - faster, slower, or a specific accent.
• Muse Realtime Avatar: an animated avatar driven by Muse's real-time voice model, from Meta Superintelligence Labs.
• Computer use on Mac: with permission, Muse for Mac can operate any app on your computer and keep working through queued tasks after you walk away.
• Its own email address: Muse gets an address it can use to get things done, or that you can write to.
• New connectors: Walmart, Best Buy, American Eagle Outfitters, DICK'S Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Gap, Michael Kors, Sephora, Ulta, and Wayfair, plus Shop Pay and PayPal; Instacart, with Expedia coming soon; and Notion, Granola, GitHub, and Box for work.

Muse is already reachable through its own app, WhatsApp, the web, and a Mac desktop app.

Muse Charm: what we know and don't

Muse Charm is a palm-sized device with a small screen showing an avatar for your agent, which can hang from a keychain. Zuckerberg said on stage that the team still had to "finalize laying out the components" and that it would be "ready to ship in time for the holidays in December," and that you start talking by tapping a fingerprint sensor, without unlocking a phone. Meta's own recap says only that it uses a state-of-the-art real-time voice model and that "we'll have more to share later this year." Meta has not announced a price, battery life, or launch countries.

Muse on AI glasses

On glasses, Muse is meant to act on what you're looking at - a product on a shelf, a flier, a list of school supplies - so you don't have to describe it. Meta's examples include guided workouts, meal logging, booking appointments, checking flight prices, and buying products you see, with Muse working in the background and reporting back. Meta says it is also bringing Private Processing to its glasses so AI features run without anyone, including Meta, seeing your data.

What this means if you're choosing an AI assistant

Muse is becoming an agent you reach by voice rather than a chatbot you type into, and Meta is betting on distribution: WhatsApp, glasses, and now a dedicated device. The practical questions are the same as for any agent that can spend money and send email - which accounts you connect, what it's allowed to buy, and how you review what it did. For shopping and errands in the US, the new retail and payment connectors make Muse more capable than it was at launch; for work, the Notion, GitHub, and Box connectors are a start rather than a full toolkit.
